I've been using organic products for over 15 years. Even now many are confused as to why. Simply put I started the shift to organic because:
1. I needed to reduce my exposure to chemicals. I have sensitive skin, washing powers gave me rashes, shampoo made me itchy, perfumes make me sneeze, chemicals smells made me feel sick. I'm like a chemical radar. If there is something toxic in the environment my body tells me. I had to do something fast!
2. I am concerned about the health of our planet. My choice to reduce chemicals in my food, home, cleaning and skincare means I'm doing may part to tell farmers and producers that if it's damaging our environment I won't buy them.
3. I'm a mum first! I have one beautiful little angel called Harry. He's 6 and he's the most important thing in the world to me. I'm sure any other parent understands this. His body and brain are still developing so he needs a toxin free (or a much as possible) environment. In addition he needs a planet that is healthy for him and his future children to live.
In my role editing my online magazine I have learnt a great deal about organic products and realised that the organic industry may also need to revisit it's ethics. Why are we choosing organic? Generally to reduce our impact on the earth and benefit our health. So it perplexed me reading the ingredients on organic products. A single face moisturiser containing over 30 ingredients? Then... Only 80 or 90% were organic..... What I discovered is that most moisturisers have about 4-8 truly beneficial ingredients such as lemon myrtle, shea butter, olive leaf extract, jaboba, then they add fragrances, then emulsifiers, natural preservatives, then more ingredients to stabilise the mixture. In my opinion it's all too much!
In the words of my dear friend who shares my passion for chemical free living, it's time to CUT THE CRAP! I don't know about you but I need a skincare range without 20, 30 even 40 ingredients. We need moisturisers and skin treatments that deliver the benefits nature has to offer. Skincare that's beneficial in the way biting into a beautiful fresh organic apple, or tasting a crisp fresh organic carrot is beneficial. Real organic ingredients!
Less ingredients means less chance of irritation, plus better understanding of what you are putting onto your skin (remembering more than 60% of what you put in your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream). It means instead of supporting the production of 40 unnecessary ingredients, all contributing to unnecessary manufacturing, waste and pollution, you are just buying and paying for what you need.
My aim is to give you a skincare line that meets these criteria.
Watch this space.
